Being Healthy: Andrew Stemler's Bite Size Advice...
CrossFit's growth has been phenomenal and with that phenomenal growth it has naturally gained its critics.
Andrew Stemler owner of CrossFit London UK caught our attention because of his colourful history and equally colourful personality. But it was his teaching style that ran counter to the negatives often levelled at CrossFit that really peaked our interest.
His willingness to see things from a beginner's perspective makes him a superb communicator, awesome teacher and great spokesperson for CrossFit.
Andrew's full interview here.

Something To Think About...
A.J. Reb Materi
Celery's Like Clark Kent...
Celery is pretty unassuming. It’s kinda like Clark Kent - shy, awkward, humble and in possession of super powers:
- REGULATES BLOOD PRESSURE
The chemical compound that gives celery its distinctive smell and taste is known to reduce blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and the muscles around the arteries. Calcium, magnesium, and potassium present in the vegetable also have key roles in regulating blood pressure.
- AIDS WEIGHT LOSS
Low in calories and virtually fat free and because of its high water (95%) and fibre content it leaves you feeling more satisfied than some other fruits and veg.
- CALMS NERVOUS SYSTEM
Alkaline minerals in celery have a calming effect on the nervous system.
- PROMOTES A HEALTHY IMMUNE SYSTEM
Packed with a wealth of bacteria and virus fighting antioxidants and compounds, as well as huge doses of vitamin c, celery promotes a healthy immune system.
- FIGHTS CANCER
Contains a number of anti-carcinogenic compounds which are known to prevent tumour growth, improve the effectiveness of white blood cells, and prevent the damaging effects of free radicals.
- ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
A natural anti-inflammatory, celery is believed to assist with ailments attributed to inflammation such as arthritis.
- NEUTRALISES ACIDITY
A great blood tonic because it is a highly alkaline food which helps regulate the body’s ph balance neutralising excess acidity.
- NATURAL DIURETIC
Celery’s sodium and potassium balance gives it a diuretic effect which helps flush out excess fluid from the body.
- ENCOURAGES GOOD DIGESTION
Celery is high in fibre which helps to keep your digestive system in tip top condition by speeding up the excretion of wastes and toxins from the body.
- FRESHENS BREATH
The fibrousness of celery helps clean teeth and scrub bad breath forming bacteria from the back of the tongue.
- HYDRATES
Replaces lost electrolytes and rehydrates the body with its rich mineral content.
- INCREASES TESTOSTERONE
The hormones androstenone and androstenol present in celery increase testosterone and energy levels. However some nutritionist point to celery’s high fibre, low fat content as being unfavourable at promoting high levels of testosterone.
Tips – Add celery to stews, soups, pies, salads, use it in dips or juice it.
NB that if you’ve never eaten celery a small percentage of people suffer from ‘celery allergy’ and can experience anaphylactic shock after eating it.
